How To Identify Granite

Sep 03, 2025

There are observation methods, touch methods, acid drop method, listening method and ruler measurement method to identify granite.
    1.Observation Method
Observe the color, pattern and other characteristics of granite. Granite is mainly composed of minerals such as feldspar, quartz and mica, and is usually flesh-red, gray or yellow-brown. Because granite is a deep rock, it often forms well-developed and visible mineral particles, so it is named.
    2.Touch Method
Touch the surface of granite and feel its texture. The granite has a dense structure and a hard texture, which gives it a delicate and solid feeling when touched.
    3.Acid drop Method
Use dilute hydrochloric acid to drop on the surface of the stone. If bubbles occur, it may be carbonate rocks such as limestone or marble, rather than granite.
    4.Listening Method
Listen to the sound of granite with a tapping method. Granite with better quality, due to its dense and uniform internal structure and no micro-cracks, the sound is relatively crisp when hitting.
    5.Ruler measurement Method
Measure the granite size and check whether it meets the standards. Generally speaking, the thickness of granite should be even, the four corners should be accurately distinguished, the edges should be neat, and the right angles should be corresponding to each other.
It should be noted that when identifying granite, a variety of methods should be used to make comprehensive judgments, and the specific use environment and requirements of the stone should be considered. In addition, if you are not sure how to identify it, it is recommended to consult a professional stone appraisal agency or personnel.
