Sesame Grey G603 and Dark Grey G654 are widely used for granite headstones because their mineral structure supports CNC cutting, polishing, Sandblasting and Laser etching. Typical granite density is around 2.7 to 2.9g/cm³, while final mechanical performance depends on quarry source, block quality, grain structure and processing condition.

1. Mineral Composition and Fleck Uniformity
G603 is generally recognized by its light grey background with fine black and white mineral flecks. G654 presents a darker grey to charcoal background with more pronounced mineral contrast. For monument production, block selection should prioritize consistent grain distribution rather than relying only on commercial color names.
Material samples should be approved before production when multiple monuments must maintain consistent color and fleck distribution.
For projects combining granite monuments with sculptural elements, review our Angel Headstones collection for compatible memorial designs and stone applications.

2. Flexural Strength and Abrasion Resistance

Granite headstone performance depends on both stone properties and structural geometry. Slab thickness, unsupported span, drilling position and edge configuration affect resistance to bending and localized stress.

Production inspection should include:

  • Monument grade block checked for visible fractures
  • Slab thickness verified against FOC CAD drawings
  • Drilled holes positioned away from weak grain zones
  • Pitched edges inspected for impact damage
  • Ogee profile dimensions checked before final polishing

G603 and G654 are suitable for repeated cemetery applications when the selected block has stable grain structure and the finished component is correctly engineered.

Surface Polishing Dynamics and Contrast

Polishing and Sandblasting Control

Polishing progressively reduces surface roughness through abrasive stages and produces a reflective finish. G603 normally shows a lighter visual response, while G654 produces stronger contrast between polished stone and engraved areas.

Sandblasting removes the polished surface locally to create a controlled matte background for lettering, portraits and decorative borders. Blast pressure, abrasive type and nozzle distance must remain consistent across repeated production batches.

Laser etching requires additional surface evaluation because darker G654 can provide stronger visual contrast for photographic imagery, while G603 produces a lighter tonal background.

3. Long Term Outdoor Stability in Acid Rain
Outdoor granite headstones are exposed to rainfall, temperature changes, freeze thaw cycles and atmospheric pollutants. Low water absorption helps limit moisture penetration, but surface condition and installation details also affect service performance.
Quality control should verify stone condition, finish consistency, engraving depth and packing protection before shipment. Export shipments can use Export grade 2cm wooden crates with internal reinforcement to reduce movement and surface impact during maritime transportation.
Our factory processes G603 and G654 through Monument grade block selection, CNC cutting, polishing, Sandblasting, Laser etching and final inspection.
