1. Understanding Kerbset Configurations
Kerbset memorials, also known as full grave surrounds or lawn kerbs, are among the most traditional and complete cemetery monument styles. Unlike upright headstones that stand alone, a kerbset consists of a border frame (the kerb) that encloses the entire grave plot, topped with a full-length cover slab. The headstone is integrated into the head end of the kerb. This design creates a "flower bed" appearance, often filled with chippings or turf. For families, full grave surrounds provide a defined, sacred space for remembrance. Kerbsets represent higher revenue per grave compared to single markers, as they require more granite and labor. Standard kerbsets accommodate one adult (single) or two adults (double), with the double version having a wider kerb and two-name panels on the headstone. Here is an example of the single kerbset with roses carving headstone.

2. Standard Dimensions and Tolerances
When selecting kerbset memorials, precise dimensions are critical because cemetery regulations vary. However, industry standard sizes include:
A.Single Kerbset: Overall length 210cm–240cm, width 75cm–90cm.    B. Double Kerbset: Overall length 210cm–240cm, width 120cm–140cm.   C.Kerb Height: 8cm–15cm above ground.   D.Cover Slab Thickness: 5cm–8cm.   E.Headstone Thickness: 8cm–10cm for stability.   Tolerances are equally important. As a reputable memorial exporter, we guarantee ±3mm for length/width and ±1mm for thickness. Anything larger may cause fitting issues at the cemetery. Many cemeteries require pre-approval of kerbset plans before installation, so we will provide accurate CAD files to our wholesaler and retailer clients, which helps them secure permits faster.

3. Matching Chipping Glass and Stone
The visual appeal of full grave surrounds depends heavily on the infill material placed inside the kerb. Two popular options are marble chippings and crushed glass. Marble chippings (typically 1cm–3cm in size) offer a natural, matte finish in white, grey, or pink. Colored crushed glass ---- often blue, black, or green ---- provides a modern, sparkling contrast against grey granite. When designing a kerbset, recommend that retailers match the chipping color to the headstone's lettering. For example, white chippings work well with black granite, while black glass complements grey G654 granite. Avoid contrasting too sharply, as this distracts from the inscription. Also, ensure the chipping depth sits at least 2cm below the kerb top to prevent spillage during cemetery maintenance.
4. Foundation Requirements
Proper foundation work prevents kerbset memorials from sinking or tilting over time. Unlike upright monuments that use a single concrete pad, kerbsets require a continuous concrete bed slightly larger than the kerb's outer dimensions (add 5cm on each side). The foundation depth should be at least 15cm for single graves and 20cm for double graves, with reinforcement mesh in frost-prone regions. The concrete must cure for a minimum of 48 hours before placing the kerb. Additionally, weep holes (small drainage gaps) should be left in the kerb's lower edge to prevent water pooling inside the surround. As a manufacturer, we recommend pre-drilling anchor holes in the kerb sections so retailers can pin them directly to the concrete foundation using stainless steel rods.
